Pollinator friendly perennials for the Western garden

Birds, bats, bees, butterflies, beetles and other small creatures that pollinate plants are responsible for bringing us one out of every three bites of food*. Worldwide, pollinator numbers are declining at a rapid rate due to pesticides, human expansion, seas of concrete, and many other factors. Growing flowering native and adapted plants in our yards not only encourages pollinator presence but creates a safe environment for them to live.

Here is a list of some of my favorites:

  • Nepeta (Cat Mint)
  • Penstemon
  • Yarrow
  • Aster
  • Blanket Flower
  • Salvia
  • Bee Balm
  • Coneflower
  • Sage

When planted in the garden, these pollinator friendly perennials will bring color, beauty and homes for our critter friends.
